The Lord Who fights for you

And David inquired of God, saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand?” The LORD said to him, “Go up, for I will deliver them into your hand.” 1 Chronicles 14:10

One thing about David, he was wise to seek God. He understood from an early age that God had his back. I know he also understood that if God didn’t, it was no use. I don’t think he focused on that fear but on rather on faith and the fact that God did! That’s why he was so courageous.

Remember when David went out to fight Goliath as just a small young guy? The little guy who went up against a giant and won!!! He was nothing on his own but God had been preparing him all along. God uses the most least likely’s. What did David say when he faced Goliath and Who did he recognize??

  • Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.” 1 Samuel 17:45

We all face giants and mountains in life. We must not only speak to the problems and mountains that surround us and that try to come against us, but we must know Who’s got our back. We must seek and pursue God and His guidance, because alone, we fail!

Goliath was a Philistine and here David is again fighting the same ole enemy! God told him to “Go up, and HE would hand them over to him.” And He did. We see many stories in the Bible where God’s people inquired of Him for direction because they realized they didn’t know what to do and they knew they couldn’t do it alone. It doesn’t matter if it’s a physical issue, a financial, a spiritual, relational issue or whatever it may be. We all face issues. Different issues, same enemy, same scheme, but SAME GOD WHO ALWAYS COMES THROUGH. That’s the God we serve.

  • “O our God, will You not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.” 2 Chronicles 20:12

We MUST not only acknowledge God but we must follow His instructions when He speaks or urges. We must seek. 🙏🏽 We must ask. 🗣️ We must knock. ✊

David was wise in this regard. Are we? Are we trying to fight giants and fight the wolves off by ourselves? Fact is, the enemy is never gonna go away but God give us the tools, the resources, the power, the Word and words, the way, the armor, and all the means in which to wake up daily and live victoriously. He tells and teaches us how to fight. We aren’t alone and we aren’t defenseless.

Sometimes we do feel like we’re backed into a corner or we may not see a way out. I’ve learned that this is when God works best and shows Himself mighty! He loves to part Red Seas. He loves to confound your enemies. But sometimes like Esther and Mordecai, He lets you get to the point where it seems impossible or you feel defenseless, and this is when Exodus 14:14 comes in!

If God is on your side, you literally have nothing to fear. It doesn’t mean you won’t face fears but rather to know and look at it like David did. God is with you. He is for you. He won’t tell you to do something that He won’t back. So seek and inquire of Him daily. No matter what you face, He was already there before you knew you’d be. He not only hems us in behind and before (Ps 139:5), He’s all around us.

David inquired and he pursued. He did exactly what God told him to do! Faith without works is dead. He was constant in pursuit.

  • So they went up to Baal Perazim, and David defeated them there. Then David said, “God has broken through my enemies by my hand like a breakthrough of water.” Therefore they called the name of that place Baal Perazim. 1 Chronicles 14:11

He didn’t just call on God when he was in trouble like most of us do, but he didn’t forget to praise and give credit to God after. Many forget! “God has broken through my enemies by my hand!” He recognizes God as God and that he was just a willing tool in His hand. Why would God not take care of you??? We have the very Spirit of God living in us, the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead! If God be for us, truly who can be against us? Think about it! He may let it go on for a while but in the end, He gets the final say!

Then here they come back again! The Philistines weren’t giving up that easy so what did David do? Same thing! He inquired again of God. We must inquire daily; again and again as a lifestyle, not a one time request!

God gave him a little different instruction this time and David did just as God had commanded him, and so they stuck their ememies down again. THEN David’s fame spread into all the lands! The Lord caused all nations to fear him. God used David but the moment we forget Who we came from, Who brought us there and Who defends us, is the moment we begin to lose.

Don’t forget the One Who promised you is not only faithful but with you through it all. Don’t forget when you get what you get to give credit to Him Who promised and helped you. Don’t forget the same God who parted the Red Sea or solved the last problem, is the same God who can help you cross the next one too….

David wasn’t a symbol of himself but rather the God Who created Him, positioned him, sustained him and caused him to be victorious time and time again… He was a man that didn’t quit and neither must we. These things are just indicators that you are going somewhere or the enemy wouldn’t try and stop you. Go when He says go! Whoa when He says whoa. It isn’t wise to pursue what He never told you to do and it isn’t wise to hold back when He clears you.

We serve a God Who is more than able to deliver and save us, and at the same time destroy the plan of our enemy. Do whatever He instructs you to do but seek Him first.

He’s proved it time and time again. Why would He fail us now? He won’t!

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6
